GRASS FED MEAT

Grass fed and finished meat is an excellent source of protein, is rich in essential vitamins and minerals and has a healthy ratio of Omega 3:6 fatty acids. This is because nature designed ruminants like cattle and sheep to eat and digest forages, like grass.

They are meant to be a part of nature and it’s cycles, not separated from them. When we keep the cows and sheep on the land as they should be and manage their grazing, using holistic management techniques and permaculture principles, it regenerates ecosystems by building soils, sequestering carbon, and maintaining the natural water cycle.

So when you decide to eat grass fed and finished beef or lamb you are not only doing something that is healthier for you and the animals, it is also healthier for the planet.

OUR GRASS FED BEEF

Luing cattle, originally from Scotland are a very hardy breed well adapted to our Canadian climate. They naturally turn forage into delicious, juicy, tender, well marbled meat without the need to be fed grain. The majority of our herd consists of Scottish Luing cows bred to a Red Angus Bull. This cross produces offspring with the enhanced traits from both the Angus breed and the Luing breed resulting in calves perfect for grass fed beef production.

OUR GRASS FED LAMB

We raise a cross of Dorper, Katahdin and St. Croix sheep breeds on our farm. All are hair sheep breeds meaning that they require no shearing and will naturally shed their wool in the spring and summer. Hair sheep breeds are also known to be hardier, have a naturally high resistance to parasites and are less selective grazers doing extremely well at producing beautifully finished meat on grass alone. They are known for their tender, juicy, mildly flavored meat.
